grooming please!
Listen up guys – grooming is important! Now we aren’t saying to go and get a full body wax followed by a mani-pedi, but at least do the essentials. And this means a regular haircut and looking after that facial hair.
The last few years has seen Mad Men inspired hairstyles dominate, with men both near and far sporting either the quiff or the sleeked part. And this winter, the style hasn’t really changed; everything is just that little more exaggerated. If you are going to attempt the quiff, pump it up with the use of boosting powder. This looks exactly like baby powder and is to be sprinkled onto slightly damp hair before drying in order to give your hair volume. American Crew, Schwarzkopf and Taft all sell tubs of the stuff, and it is perfect for achieving the look. However, if you prefer to be a little more dapper and sleek your hair down, then your greatest tool will be pomade. It is a thick, clear gel that provides you with a high shine yet still allows for you to finely comb the hair back into a sleek part. If you are concerned about movement, spray a bit of hairspray over the top in order to hold it all in place.
As for the beard, well, it seems to be making a comeback. However, there are a few basic rules you need to follow. Unless you are the penultimate hipster, keep it neat and tidy. Use clippers to regularly trim it back and to shape it, and even moisturise the hair to soften it. Take time when trimming to ensure an even look, and most of all, pay attention to where the sideburns end and beard begins- they should blend in together! If you prefer to sport a moustache, then the same rules apply.
